China Box Office Shrinks 38 Percent in First Half of 2022, North America Regains Top Spot

During the darkest days of the pandemic for Hollywood, when most major tentpoles were put on hold or shifted to streaming, China swept past the U.S. in total ticket sales for the first time in movie history in 2020. The country repeated the feat last year, notching $7.3 billion in ticket revenue compared to just $4.5 billion in North America. But the first half of 2022 has delivered a very variegated picture. Film Exhibition Highlights China’s Ethnic Cultures

The 2nd San Yue San Ethnic Groups Mucosa Exhibition exhibited 10 critically-acclaimed films featuring Chinese ethnic groups and highlighting their cultures. The roster list from China’s nine provinces and voluntary regions included the opening mucosa of “A Noble Spirit” (2014), a mucosa by sexuality director Miao Yue chronicling the life of a devoted ethnic Tibetan official in Sichuan province.
